The South Fort Meade Mine’s contributions include:
- Employment of 221 employees with a combined average monthly payroll of $1,141,000. Independent economic studies calculated that for every one direct phosphate job, there are an additional 6.5 jobs which support the industry. Based on that ratio, more than 1,400 indirect jobs are tied to South Fort Meade operations.
- In 2011, the mine purchased more than $131 million in non-labor related goods and services.
- An agreement, contingent on the company’s ability to mine the Hardee Extension, provides $42 million over 10 years for Hardee County infrastructure improvements and economic development initiatives.
